Waiting for Christ
Scripture: John 1:1-5
Reflection: We have waited throughout Advent to light the Christ candle on Christmas Eve. Just like some families have Advent wreathes at home, having a Christ candle will remind us that Christmas is not just one day, or something we celebrate at church, but that Jesus is the light of the world and the light of our lives! We are reminded that the “light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” Where are all the places you have seen God’s light shining in darkness? Where do you see light this Advent season?
Activity: Make a Christ Candle: cut out pictures from magazines or write words on paper and cut them out that remind you of Jesus’ light in the world. Glue them to the glass of the candle. You can also use stickers. When finished, wrap the glass with clear packing tape tightly to protect your Christ candle. Use your Christ candle during your prayer time throughout the Christmas season.
Prayer: Light of the World, shine in us, and shine through us so we can be light in the darkness for others, and so we can carry Your light into the world. Amen.
