Scripture: John 1:6-10

The light is coming.
On this, the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, we know the light has returned with the dawn, and the days will grow longer.
But we also know the true light is coming into the world.
Like John, we testify to the light. Like John, we must speak out against oppression and speak up for the poor and marginalized. Like John, we know that labels of religion are meaningless, our lives must be a witness to the light. And like John, we also know that living for God is a risk.
But we know the true light is coming into the world. We wait for this light, but live now, working for the light, being God’s light-bearers into the world. Live into the light with hope.

Prayer: God of Light, shine in the darkness, shine in our despair and sorrow and grief. Shine through our hearts and hands to lift up one another. In the name of the Christ, who is coming, we pray. Amen.
