Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11-13

We read these words of hope from the prophet Jeremiah for the people who were being taken into exile, that God would deliver them and held “a future with hope” for them. So we, thousands of years later, look back on these words and remember the faithful who returned because of God’s faithfulness.

As Christians, we find our hope in Christ, and though we read these words that were ancient in Jesus’ day, our hope for our future is renewed. We know God has plans for us, plans for a future with hope. They may not be detailed, exact plans–but we know that God has a hope for this world, for everything to be made new again, for what is wrong to be made right, for those that have fallen away to be restored. In this Advent season, we wait with this hope again, for God to do something new.

God of Hope, God of Peace, You are always with us, You never forsake us, and we know You are coming again. This Advent season, call us to be living Hope in this world, and to walk in Your ways of peace. In the name of the Christ, who is coming, we pray. Amen.
