Scripture: Habakkuk 2:1-3

There is still a vision.  There is still hope.  There is still a future that awaits us.  With all this talk of the “end of the world,” we know that there is never an ending without a beginning.  The people witnessed an end to their world when they were taken into exile, when Jerusalem was overthrown, when the temple was destroyed.  The prophets spoke hope to them even while they were being taken away.  The people again witnessed an end to their world when the revolt was crushed by the Romans, when the temple was destroyed.  Some found hope in turning away from the temples and changing their views of worship and the earthly kingdom.  Others found hope in Jesus, their Messiah, who had come to show them that they were the body of Christ, that our hope remained not in this life and death but in a life that was beyond death.

So we, too, must live into a new vision, a new hope, but we look back to the prophets to remember the hopes of times and people past, knowing God is about to do a new thing, but we must trust in God and seek God’s vision for our lives, knowing God has given us hopes and dreams that are part of this vision.

Prayer:  God of vision, guide us into our future with hope, knowing that with every ending there is a new beginning.  Help us not to be afraid, but to step out in wonder and amazement, trusting Your wisdom and guidance in our lives.  In the name of the Christ, who is coming, we pray.  Amen.
