Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:50-58
Our labor is not in vain. As clergy and church leaders, we get worn out and burned out, especially in this time of year. But we must not lose heart. As I once heard someone say (and I’m sure it can be attributed to someone famous, I just can’t remember who), clergy are clergy because we cannot follow Jesus any other way. For us, Christ has called us to give our whole lives. And at times we can bang our head against the desk and say “Why, God, Why?”
We need to remember that God is moving and working in us in a new way. We are actively watching and waiting for that time when the boundary between heaven and earth is blurred, when the line between life and death is erased. We press on, and we know that our work is not in vain.
God, You have called us into this great and wonderful calling, but at times we feel trampled upon and used. Give us strength to continue on. Help us to know the true victory in fulfilling the call the follow You, and help us to know our labor is not in vain. Grant us times of rest, quiet, and appreciation. In the name of Jesus, who gave all for us, we pray. Amen.
